Tencent Meeting (腾讯会议) is the meeting platform with the largest user base in mainland China — over 400 million registered users as of 2025 — and the one most likely to show up in any cross-border call involving a Chinese counterpart. Its international identity, VooV Meeting, was folded back into the unified “Tencent Meeting” brand in 2023, but the technical surface is still distinct from Zoom or Teams in three ways that matter for transcription: it leans heavily on Tencent’s own Hunyuan / Lemur speech models, it gates cloud recording behind the Business and Enterprise editions, and it integrates by default with WeCom (企业微信) rather than with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace identity.
This guide covers the Tencent-Meeting-specific mechanics: free vs Business vs Enterprise edition entitlements, where local and cloud recordings actually land, what the built-in AI subtitle and AI meeting summary features include (and the languages they support), and how to layer Atter AI on top for 98.7% accuracy and unified cross-platform search.
Tencent Meeting Edition Matrix for Recording and Transcription
Recording and transcription are gated by edition (版本), not by host seniority. The 2026 entitlement matrix:
| Edition | Local recording | Cloud recording | AI subtitles (real-time) | AI meeting minutes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free (免费版) | Yes | No | Limited | No |
| Member (会员版) | Yes | Yes (limited storage) | Yes | Add-on |
| Business (商业版) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Enterprise (企业版) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Two consequences. First, free users can record locally but cannot get a cloud-stored recording or an automatic post-meeting summary — every transcription path for free users starts with a local file upload. Second, AI Meeting Minutes (智能纪要) is a separate capability from real-time AI subtitles; many Member-tier users have subtitles but no post-meeting summary unless they buy the add-on.
What Tencent Meeting Produces After the Call
A Tencent Meeting recording bundle depends on whether it was local or cloud.
Local recording writes a single composite file:
.mp4— the recording, default H.264 720p, audio interleaved. The desktop client also writes a.txtchat log if you turned on 保存聊天记录 before the call.
The default path on Windows is Documents\TencentMeeting\ and on macOS is ~/Documents/TencentMeeting/. The path is configurable under 设置 → 录制 → 本地录制存储位置.
Cloud recording lands in the Tencent Meeting cloud and is accessible from 个人中心 → 我的录制 in the web console at meeting.tencent.com. You get:
- The MP4 streamable in-browser.
- An MP4 download, valid via signed URL.
- An AI 会议纪要 Doc (if the host enabled AI 智能助理 during the call), containing a summary, decisions, action items, and topic timeline.
- Optionally a
.vttor.srtcaption file if real-time AI subtitles were on.
Default cloud retention is 7 days on the Member edition and 30 days on Business; Enterprise admins can extend up to indefinite via the Tencent Meeting admin console (管理后台 → 会议录制 → 云端录制保留时长). Like Zoom, this is the gotcha that catches teams once — assume historical Member-tier recordings are gone unless an admin extended retention.
Method 1: Tencent Meeting Real-Time AI Subtitles and Saved Captions
Tencent Meeting’s real-time subtitles are powered by Tencent’s Hunyuan/Lemur speech engine and run during the call. The flow:
- In the meeting, click 更多 → 字幕 → 开启字幕.
- The subtitle bar appears on every participant’s screen. Spoken language can be set to 中文(普通话), 中文(粤语), English, 日本語, or 한국어 as of 2026; bilingual mode (Chinese + English) is available on Business and above and shows both languages side by side.
- To save the subtitle stream as a file, the host enables 保存字幕 in the recording panel before recording starts. The
.vttis then bundled with the recording in the cloud (or written next to the MP4 for local recordings on Business edition and above).
A few details specific to Tencent Meeting:
- Real-time subtitles are free even on the free edition, but saving the subtitle file as a transcript requires Member or above.
- Accuracy on Mandarin headset audio sits around 88–92% — slightly higher than Zoom’s English baseline because Tencent’s models are trained primarily on Mandarin corpora.
- Cantonese accuracy drops noticeably (75–82%); for serious Cantonese transcription, Method 3 below is the cleaner path.
- The on-screen subtitle and the saved
.vttare not always identical — the saved file uses a higher-quality offline pass with longer context windows, so it usually reads slightly better than the live captions.
Method 2: Tencent AI Meeting Minutes (智能纪要)
AI 智能纪要 is Tencent’s LLM-based meeting summary, separate from real-time subtitles. It produces a structured Doc with summary, decisions, action items with owner attribution, and a clickable topic timeline that jumps to the relevant timestamp in the recording.
To use it:
- Host or co-host clicks AI 智能助理 → 开启会议纪要 during the call.
- After the meeting ends, the Doc is generated within 3–10 minutes for a one-hour call and appears at 个人中心 → 我的纪要.
- The Doc can be shared via a Tencent Meeting link or exported to Tencent Docs (腾讯文档) for further editing.
AI Meeting Minutes is bundled with Business and Enterprise editions. Member users see it as an add-on. The summary supports Chinese primarily; English summaries are produced from English-spoken meetings but the prose quality is noticeably weaker than Mandarin output.
Method 3: Connecting Atter AI to Tencent Meeting Cloud Recordings
For teams that want consistent 98.7% accuracy across all Tencent Meeting recordings — including Cantonese, code-switched Mandarin-English, and PSTN dial-in audio — the cleanest path is the cloud recording plus Atter AI integration.
- In Atter AI, open Integrations → Tencent Meeting and click Authorize.
- The OAuth flow opens at open.meeting.qq.com. Sign in with the account that owns the recordings and grant the 录制读取 (recording.read) and 会议读取 (meeting.read) scopes.
- Enterprise edition tenants may need a Tencent Meeting administrator to pre-approve the Atter AI app in 管理后台 → 应用市场 → 第三方应用 before users can install it.
After a cloud recording finishes processing, Atter AI fetches the MP4 via the signed download URL the Tencent Meeting Open Platform issues, runs transcription with diarization tuned for Tencent’s audio profile, and posts the result to your dashboard alongside Zoom, Teams, and Webex transcripts.
The integration handles the signed-URL refresh automatically, which matters because Tencent’s signed URLs expire after a few hours by default.
Method 4: Atter AI Notetaker Bot in a Tencent Meeting
When you can’t use cloud recording — free or Member tier without storage, an externally hosted meeting, or a call where the host won’t enable the integration — invite the Atter AI bot as a participant:
- Paste the Tencent Meeting URL (
meeting.tencent.com/dm/<id>or the internationalvoovmeeting.com/<...>link) into Atter AI’s Add Meeting field, or connect your calendar and let it auto-join. - The bot joins as “Atter AI Notetaker.” If the host has 入会需主持人允许 on, it lands in the waiting room; the host clicks 允许进入.
- Audio is captured live and the transcript is ready within seconds of meeting end.
A few Tencent-Meeting-specific behaviors:
- If the meeting has 水印 (watermark) or 录制控制 → 仅主持人可录 enabled, the bot still captures audio because it joins as a regular participant — Tencent’s recording permission is separate from passive audio capture.
- If the meeting uses 加密会议 (Tencent’s E2EE mode for high-security calls, available on Enterprise edition), no third-party notetaker can attend, by design.
- Tencent Meeting enforces the host’s regional setting: meetings created on the mainland China site (
meeting.tencent.com) cannot be joined by bots routed through the international site, and vice versa. The Atter AI bot detects which routing to use from the URL.
Method 5: Uploading a Local Tencent Meeting Recording
For free-tier users or archived calls:
- Open
Documents/TencentMeeting/and find the meeting folder named<date>_<MeetingTitle>/. - Upload the
.mp4to Atter AI. The desktop client does not produce a separate.m4a, so you upload the MP4 directly (Atter AI extracts the audio track on the fly). - Pick the meeting language. For a Mandarin-English bilingual meeting, use auto-detect to let Atter AI switch models per segment.
A 60-minute Tencent Meeting MP4 typically transcribes in 2–4 minutes.
Tencent Meeting Transcription Gotchas
The 7-day Member-tier cloud retention trap. Member edition cloud recordings disappear after 7 days by default. If you need anything beyond a week, either upgrade to Business or download the MP4 within the window.
WeCom (企业微信) calls don’t go through Tencent Meeting recording. Many Chinese organizations use WeCom for internal voice and video calls, which sits on a different backend even though it shares the Tencent identity layer. WeCom calls cannot be transcribed via the Tencent Meeting integration; record them locally on the host machine and use Method 5.
Cantonese auto-detect can misfire. Tencent’s spoken-language picker treats “中文” as Mandarin by default. For Cantonese meetings, manually set the language to 中文(粤语) before enabling subtitles, or accuracy will collapse.
Mainland vs international site recordings are not interchangeable. A recording made on voovmeeting.com (the international identity) is stored on Tencent’s offshore infrastructure and is not visible from meeting.tencent.com. If you can’t find a recording, check whether the host joined from the mainland or international site.
The on-screen watermark survives into the cloud MP4. If the host enabled watermarks for confidentiality, the watermark text is burned into the recorded video. This does not affect audio, so transcription is unaffected — but be aware that downloaded MP4s are not “clean” for redistribution.
AI Meeting Minutes is enabled per meeting, not per account. Even on Business and Enterprise editions, the host has to click 开启会议纪要 for each call. To make it automatic, set the default in 管理后台 → 默认会议设置 → AI 智能助理.

How Tencent Meeting compares to its peers: unlike Zoom’s 30-day blanket cloud retention, Tencent Meeting retention varies by edition (7 days for Member, 30 for Business, configurable for Enterprise) — see our Zoom guide for that contrast. Unlike Microsoft Teams, where recordings live in OneDrive and inherit Microsoft 365 retention, Tencent Meeting recordings live in Tencent Cloud and inherit Tencent admin policy — our Teams guide walks through the OneDrive path. And unlike Google Meet, which gates recording behind Workspace Business Standard, Tencent Meeting lets free users record locally but gates only the cloud features behind paid tiers — see the Google Meet guide for the contrast.
Tencent Meeting Transcription FAQ
Does the free edition of Tencent Meeting allow recording?
Yes, but only local recording to the host’s desktop client. Cloud recording, AI Meeting Minutes, and the saved subtitle file all require Member edition or higher. Free users who need a transcript should record locally and upload to Atter AI via Method 5.
Where exactly are Tencent Meeting local recordings stored?
By default on Windows in Documents\TencentMeeting\, on macOS in ~/Documents/TencentMeeting/. The path is configurable in the desktop client under 设置 → 录制 → 本地录制存储位置. Each meeting gets its own folder named with the date and meeting title.
How long does Tencent Meeting keep cloud recordings?
7 days for Member edition, 30 days for Business edition. Enterprise edition administrators can extend retention up to indefinitely in the admin console. Default is set at the edition tier; individual hosts cannot extend their own retention without admin involvement.
Does Tencent Meeting transcribe Cantonese accurately?
Real-time AI subtitles support Cantonese but accuracy is materially lower than Mandarin — typically 75–82% vs 88–92%. For accurate Cantonese transcription, upload the recording to Atter AI, which uses Cantonese-specific acoustic models tuned on broader corpora.
Can the Atter AI notetaker join a Tencent Meeting from outside mainland China?
Yes, regardless of which routing the meeting uses. The bot detects whether the URL points to meeting.tencent.com (mainland) or voovmeeting.com (international, now also rebranded as Tencent Meeting) and uses the matching connection.
Is AI Meeting Minutes the same as real-time AI subtitles?
No. Real-time subtitles are the live caption stream on screen, optionally saved as .vtt. AI Meeting Minutes is a separate post-meeting Doc with summary, decisions, action items, and a clickable topic timeline. They have different entitlements: subtitles are broader, AI Meeting Minutes is gated to Business and Enterprise (or Member with add-on).
Can I transcribe a meeting recorded by someone else on Tencent Meeting?
Yes — they share the MP4 with you (Tencent Meeting’s cloud recording sharing is link-based with optional password), and you upload it to Atter AI via Method 5. Your Atter AI account does not need to be connected to their Tencent Meeting account.
Does Atter AI support WeCom (企业微信) meetings?
WeCom meetings use a different backend from Tencent Meeting despite sharing the Tencent identity layer. They cannot be transcribed via the Tencent Meeting integration. The path is to record the WeCom call locally on the host machine and upload the file to Atter AI.
